How to Decorate a Cake with Flowers
One of my favorite hacks is to decorate a store bought cake with flowers. First, all the hard work is done for you. It is super simple to add special touches to your cake for very little cost, but a big impact.
The total for this decor came to under $5!
Cake Decorating Supplies:
- Small flowers – these are chamomiles that I picked up for under $5 and had PLENTY left over
- 2 Bamboo skewers (cut down to about 6 inches)
- Floral Wire
Below is a video showing a visual of how I put this together:
My first thought on creating this design was to just push the flowers into the cake. But then had second thoughts because #germaphobe. I was afraid that the flowers may have some kind of chemical or something on them since I just picked them up at the store, so I improvised. (I did wash all the stems with water before using, though.)
It was actually really easy to make this “daisy” chain topper (and took less than 3 minutes).
To create this:
- Just wrap a little of the wire around the skewer top and measure how long you need the wire to be to reach the other side of the cake, add an extra ½ inch and cut.
- Take the chamomile and “thread” the back of it through the wire. Once you get to ½ inch of wire left wrap that around the other bamboo skewer and insert it into your cake.
For the base, I added fresh strawberries around it and then filled in with little blooms of the chamomile..
The whole “design” took less than 10 minutes.
As you can see it, is a really simple way to make a cake even more beautiful with very little effort!
