DIY Grocery Store Flower Centerpieces

As you all know, I get all of my flowers from the supermarket, so I thought I would share some tips on how to create your own DIY grocery store flower centerpieces.

I have all of the details on how to create the large purple arrangement shown above here and a video tutorial for the little arrangements shown below.

When you are shopping at the store, the one thing to remember with your flowers is that don’t all have to be matchy matchy, they just need to tie together. I would definitely recommend getting something like a hydrangea as they are large and will keep the arrangements looking generally the same.

Next is to come up with a color scheme.  For this, I made one more monochromatic and the second I used the same colors, but added a pop of pink!

My full flower purchase was:

  • 6 stems of hydrangeas
  • One bunch of hyacinths
  • One bunch of alstroemeria (10 stems)
  • Two bunches of tulips (20 stems)
  • One bunch of ranunculus (10 stems)

For the large arrangement, I used:

For one the smaller arrangements I kept two of the flowers the same and added the pink ranunculus. This one contains:

    • Two hydrangeas
    • Four ranunculus and their little green off-shoots
    • Three Tulips
    • 4 x 4 Vase – click the image below to purchase

As you can see it, it really has the same general look as the large all-purple arrangement because I kept the hydrangea as the main flower.  I also kept the purple tulips to tie in and then added the pink ranunculus as a pop of extra color!

I used the leftover flowers from the store as another small centerpiece.  This one went on a small card table and had:

  • One remaining hydrangea
  • One remaining hyacinth placed in the center
  • Three stems of alstroemeria
  • Three blooms of tulips
  • Three blooms of ranunculus
  • 4 x 4 Vase – click the image below to purchase

As you can see, they all come out a little different, but the final product is a cohesive collection (said in my best Tim Gunn voice) of flowers that uses every last one that you buy!

As always, feel free to comment below with any questions you have and I am happy to answer!
