Healthy Monster Bites
There is a local health food and juice cafe here in Tulsa that makes some delicious Healthy Monster Bites and one was never enough, so I decided to make my own!
What I love about these is there is no sugar added (except for what may be in the chocolate chips), they are gluten free and vegan (if you use dark chocolate), and have a pretty low guilt factor for how sweet they are!
This also requires zero cooking skills and about 2 minutes to put together – so total score.
All you need are:
- Pitted Medjool Dates (I got the Bard Valley ones through Walmart’s order pickup for like $6)
- Any nut butter. My place uses almond butter, but I only had peanut on hand and it worked great, too.
- Chocolate chips (dark chocolate if you want to be Vegan)
- And the secret ingredient is a sprinkle of kosher sea salt. It takes these NEXT level. I promise.
To put these together, I just cut the date in half, added three chocolate chips to the inside and then added the nut butter, three more chocolate chips for good measure and added a pinch of sea salt.
And in the name of a good reviewer, I also tried this with Trader Joe’s Cookie Butter in place of the nut butter. And I will be honest, the nut butter paired better and, obviously, has less sugar. The dates make the perfect sugar balance to the savory/salty taste of the nuts. And, you really can’t go wrong with chocolate, right?
